We received requests from various sources for a larger cultivation box with more volume, to be used specifically for industrial protein production from BSF. The ingenious proportions of the box in relation to breeding and stacking height make the box ideal for achieving high yields and returns. In addition to a great deal of heat, a lot of CO2 and ammonia are produced during the breeding process. The box has open corners together with a uniquely designed long side, especially for this purpose. Together with the new base this provides for improved airflow, which increases air displacement. This makes it possible to achieve a more even climate between boxes. Breeding generally always takes place on a large scale and requires the boxes to be handled frequently. For this reason, the boxes are constructed such that they will last for years. Our specific bottom structure means that the crates remain sufficiently rigid despite the large surface area. Together with specialists in the field of automation, we have looked at the most efficient automated processing method for these new breeding boxes. Partly as a result of sufficient stiffness in the corners in combination with sufficient grip options, these BSF boxes are highly suitable for automatic stacking, unstacking and washing. The new insect breeding boxes are made of a food-safe certified combination of polypropylene (PP) and dye, which complies with the latest legislation on substance migration. The use of PP materials ensures that the boxes are dimensionally very stable and that they can be cleaned at high temperatures.
